Hyderabad, January 2024: The Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society of Hyderabad (OGSH) will be hosting the prestigious “66th All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology 2024” from 6th to 10thJanuary, 2024, at the HICC & HITEX, Hyderabad. The Congress being attended by over 10,000 delegates from India and abroad, wasinaugurated by Mallu Ravi, Former MP; today at HICC Novotel. Guestsof Honour Dr Hrishikesh D Pai, President, FOGSI; Dr Madhuri Patel, Secretary General, FOGSI; Dr Jaydeep Tank, President Elect, FOGSI;Prof S Shantha Kumari, Hon Treasurer FIGO, Immediate Past President FOGSI, Organising Chairperson, AICOG – 24 & President OGSH; Dr Vindhya T, Organising Secretary, AICOG – 24 and Dr Aruna Suman B, Organising Secretary, AICOG – 24; among othersgraced the occasion. Over five thousand delegates attended the Workshop hosted as a prelude to this Congress, yesterday.
The Congress aims to emphasise in the next 4 days on the most recent trends, advancements in the field of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. It isfocussing on the themes of Obstetric Medicine, Emerging Technologies in Obgyn, Environment & Reproduction, Sexual Reproductive Rights and Health, Pelvic Medicine etc.
Speaking on the occasion Prof S Shantha Kumari, Treasurer, FIGO, Organising Chairperson and President, Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society of Hyderabad, said, All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AICOG), is the main Congress of Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) which has 270 Societies and AICOG is mother of all Congresses it hosts. It’s a matter of pride that we are hosting the all India Congress at Hyderabad and in 70 years history of FOGSI, this is the fourth time Hyderabad is hosting the Congress.. We believe in women health, for which advocacy is critical, unless the woman is of good health, the society can’t progress. We along with the Government are working towards reducing maternal mortality, we are extremely fortunate because Telangana has one of the lowest maternal mortality rate and it will not be long before we reach single digit maternal mortality rate target. The other most important initiative we will be focusing on in the Congress is Dheera – say no to violence against women.’
Dr Hrishikesh D Pai, President, FOGSI; said, among several initiatives FOGSI is taking up is the launch of the project called Mahila Kavach Kendras, these are vaccination centres and you members should have one of the vaccination centres at your nursing homes. My theme has been badlaav or change, ‘Swasth nari Sukhi nari’, we did an anaemia project in ten states to address the anaemia problem in women. We did a Gender equality rally, one started from Mumbai and went to nine states, the second rally started from Srinagar and came down South, and the third started at Cuttack and covered the East.
Dr Madhuri Patel, Secretary General, FOGSI; said, FOGSI missions are many, some of the key accomplishments are reduction in maternal mortality rate (MMR), the MMR of India has reduced to 97 per hundred thousand live births and we are marching towards less than 70 per hundred thousand live births by 2030. Many of the states have already achieved sustainable development goals including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and more achieved these targets and hope to see we achieving a single digit MMR in these states in the near future. Our mission is prevention and elimination of cervical cancer, as sixty thousand women die because of cancer cervix.We convinced the government to include HPV vaccine in the National Immunisation Program and very soon it will be part of the program. Today FOGSI has 43500 members, last year alone 3500 members enrolled.
Dr Mallu Ravi speaking on the occasion said, my humble request to the delegates here is to detect early and prevent breast and cervix cancer in women, this alone will significantly reduce the disease burden of the country and healthy women means healthy family. Telangana has a new government which is keen to improve the conditions of women, especially their health and would want you to give suggestions which the new government can implement. Please share these suggestions with Prof S Shantha Kumari, she will represent it to the government of Telangana, which will seriously implement them.
The annual scientific conference brought together Obstetricians, Gynaecologists, healthcare professionals, researchers, practitioners, postgraduate students, clinicians and other professionals from all corners of the globe to update their knowledge and abilities paving a path for future research. Learning and incorporating newer obstetrics & gynaecological strategies helps in enhanced quality of care and improved patient outcomes.
The highlights of the 66th All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology 2024 are 25 pre congress workshops, CME and 264 hoursof academics with 60 renowned International Faculty, 1000 National Faculty, 1200 Oral and Poster Presentation and about 12,000 delegatesparticipating proactively. The vision of the conference is to reduce maternal mortality and achieve SDG 2030 goals and improves women’s health at large.

Violence against women is perhaps the most disgraceful human rights violation effecting nearly 38% of Indian women across all strata. What we identify is only the tip of the iceberg with many more going undetected. Prof. S. Shantha Kumari, Organising Chairperson has started ‘Dheera – say no to violence against women’ to sensitise young girls, women, Obstetricians and gynaecologists and involve other stake holders from all sectors. The Congress has a public forum devoted to it on January 8th, 2024, between 1 and 2 pm. A certification program has been started in this context, which in turn has covered almost 3700 schools, trained 6900 teachers and 300000 children to date. A Breast cancer awareness session will be hosted on January 9th, 2024 between 1 and 2 pm.
The Congress has Prof. Mike Robson as one of our International Faculty who is globally acclaimed for his work on analysing causes of caesarean sections and to optimise the rates; exchanging knowledge with the delegates.
